Manchester City v/s Ajax Amsterdam (08/11/2012)

Roberto Mancini will be under pressure as Manchester City take on Ajax Amsterdam at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night in the fourth match day of the UEFA Champions League, having secured just one point from a possible nine and knowing that anything other than a win would all hut end their chances of qualifying for the next stages of the competition for the second straight season. The reigning Premier League champions have not been having the best of times in the league as well, as evidenced from their last match against West Ham United when a resolute Hammers defense kept a star studded City strike force including the likes of Mario Balotelli, Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko at bay as City drew a blank.

Although they are still to taste defeat in the league, The Citizens have already lost two of their opening three matches of the Champions League, the first coming against Real Madrid and the second against Ajax in a 3-1 thrashing in the Netherlands. Having spent almost £ 500 million or more on player transfers since taking over the club a few years back, Sheikh Mansour, the owner of City will not be happy with the performance of his star studded line up in the Champions League for two consecutive seasons and although they won the league last year, they had to wait till the last minute of their last game to seal the title with an extremely poor Manchester United side almost winning the title, if they hadn’t blown their lead.

Mancini was not happy with the players that were brought in to the club in the close season and he doesn’t believe the likes of Javi Garcia or Jack Rodwell are good enough to lead the side to Champions League glory. But with the side faltering even at such an early stage of the competition, Mancini will not have any excuses if they do not qualify for the next stage, which will be in doubt if they fail to win even a single game of their three remaining fixtures.

With immense pressure on the shoulders of the Italian manager, Manchester City players will have to give it their all to overcome a youthful and hungry Ajax side that showed the world what they are capable of a couple of weeks back and City will need to be at their best if they want a result.

If it is too stressful watching the match, you can relax with some online poker action.
